Blast hose couplings as mechanical connections in the blasting system
In professional systems, blast hoses are often connected using special blast hose couplings. These couplings must not only carry compressed air but are also part of a system in which abrasive media is transported at high speeds. A proper, leak-tight connection is therefore essential for performance, wear resistance, and operational safety.
Couplings for various blasting hose sizes
Hose couplings are generally selected to match the outer diameter of the blast hose. The product range includes various sizes for different hose dimensions. Two coupling halves can only work together reliably if their design, size, and sealing system are compatible with one another.
The inner diameter of the blast hose affects the flow cross-section, while the outer diameter is relevant for the mechanical installation of the coupling. Therefore, these two measurements should not be confused.
Nylon, malleable cast iron, and bronze
Blast hose couplings are available in a variety of materials. Nylon is lightweight and is used in many hose couplings. Malleable cast iron is robust and is found, among other things, in larger or threaded connections. Bronze is used in certain connection types. The material required depends primarily on the coupling design and the existing system.
Couplings with Female Threads
In addition to direct blast hose couplings, there are versions with female threads that provide a connection to piping, fittings, or blast pot components. The product range includes various inch sizes. When replacing a coupling, the thread must be clearly matched to the existing connection.
Seals as Wear Parts
Matching rubber seals are located between the coupling halves. They ensure a tight connection and prevent unnecessary compressed air leaks. Frequent coupling, aging, and mechanical stress can cause the seals to wear out. A damaged seal should be replaced in a timely manner before leaks or excessive wear on the coupling occur.
Check Before Buying a Coupling
✅ Outer diameter of the blast hose
✅ Coupling type and mating component
✅ Thread size for system connections
✅ Compatible gasket for the coupling series
✅ Condition of existing hose ends and fasteners
Hose safety restraints for compatible hose connections
For compressed-air hoses, additional hose safety restraints may be recommended or required to limit the movement of a hose that has become unintentionally disconnected. Whether such a device is used—and which one—depends on the hose size, the connection, and operational requirements.
Buy blast hose couplings compatible with your existing system
ABS Strahltechnik offers couplings, seals, and complementary connection components for professional blast hoses. By providing information on the hose’s outer diameter, the existing coupling series, and the thread type, you can reliably determine the required model.
