Boron carbide blast nozzles for abrasive media
Boron carbide is one of the most wear-resistant materials used for blast nozzles. This makes boron carbide blast nozzles particularly attractive for long operating times and highly abrasive blasting media. Their high hardness can significantly increase service life compared to less wear-resistant nozzle materials. From an economic perspective, it is not only the purchase price that matters, but also how often a nozzle must be replaced under specific operating conditions.
Many designs for different blasting applications
This category encompasses much more than just classic straight Venturi nozzles. The product line includes short and long Venturi designs, double Venturi nozzles, hose-insert blast nozzles, flanged and clamp-on variants, as well as angle blast nozzles. This allows boron carbide to be used even in situations involving special connections or workpieces.
Short nozzles are compact and practical when workspace is limited. Long Venturi nozzles are frequently used for high-performance surface treatment. Double-Venturi and angled designs have specific spray patterns and should be selected specifically based on the actual task at hand.
The nozzle bore and compressor power ratings must be compatible
The inner diameter of the nozzle significantly affects compressed air requirements. Larger bore sizes allow for higher air and abrasive flow rates—and thus higher surface coverage rates—but require a correspondingly powerful compressor. If the available air volume is too low, the working pressure drops under load and the expected blasting performance is not achieved.
Check the connection and nozzle holder
Depending on the boron carbide nozzle, different connections are used. The product range includes, among others, 25 mm and 50 mm coarse threads as well as 3/4-inch fine threads. Hose-insert blast nozzles, on the other hand, are inserted directly into a suitable blast hose. Therefore, you should always check which nozzle holder or blast hose configuration is available before making a purchase.
Select a boron carbide nozzle as part of the system
✅ Abrasive type and grain size
✅ Desired service life and daily operating time
✅ Nozzle bore and available flow rate
✅ Threads, nozzle holders, or hose connections
✅ Desired blast pattern and workpiece geometry
Monitor wear despite long service life
Boron carbide blast nozzles are also wear parts. As wear increases, the nozzle bore may enlarge. This leads to increased air and abrasive consumption, and the blasting characteristics change. Regularly checking the diameter helps determine the economically sensible time to replace the nozzle.
Buy boron carbide blast nozzle
Material alone should not be the sole factor in your selection. The design, bore diameter, connection, and available compressor power ratings must all be compatible. ABS Strahltechnik offers boron carbide blast nozzles in a variety of professional designs and provides support in technical coordination with the blasting machine, blast hose, and application.
