Selecting the Right Nozzle for Dry Ice Blasting Machines

The nozzle of a dry ice blasting machine significantly influences how compressed air and dry ice pellets strike the surface. In addition to the nozzle shape, the inner diameter, length, and compatibility with the machine play an important role. The current product line includes numerous original nozzles from Dry Ice Energy for the Champ Neo, Champ Basic, Champ, Champ Turbo, Champ Vario, Champ Turbo PRO, and Champ Ultra.

A larger opening can allow for a higher air flow rate, thereby increasing blasting performance. However, this requires that the compressor be able to supply this volume of air continuously. If a high-performance nozzle is combined with a compressed air supply that is too small, the working pressure drops and the expected cleaning performance is not achieved.

Round blast nozzles for concentrated cleaning

Round blast nozzles focus the blast onto a relatively small area. They are suitable for localized contamination, edges, recesses, and detailed work. The standard Champ models are available in a range of diameters and lengths, including versions with inner diameters of 8, 10, 12, and 14 mm and lengths ranging from 95 to 400 mm.

Short nozzles are particularly easy to handle and are well-suited for use in confined workspaces. Long nozzles, on the other hand, improve reach when working on components located further back, deep openings, and hard-to-reach areas of machinery.

Flat blast nozzles for larger surfaces

Flat blast nozzles distribute the dry ice blasting more widely. This allows larger contiguous surfaces to be treated more evenly. The product range for the standard Champ series includes, among other things, widths ranging from approximately 22 to 48 mm. Dedicated flat blast nozzles up to 80 mm are available for the Champ Ultra.

A wide nozzle does not automatically mean greater cleaning performance per unit area. The available energy is distributed over a larger spray pattern. It is therefore particularly useful when uniform surface treatment is more important than maximum point intensity.

Angled nozzles for hard-to-reach areas

With machines, vehicles, and equipment, many areas are difficult to reach with a straight nozzle. Angled nozzles direct the jet laterally onto the component, making it easier to work behind edges, in undercuts, and on concealed surfaces. For the standard Champ interface, for example, a 50° angled nozzle is available; the Champ Ultra, in turn, has its own compatible versions.
