Blast hose for compressed air and abrasive media

The blast hose is one of the components in a blasting system that is subjected to the greatest stress. Not only does compressed air flow through its interior, but also a high-velocity mixture of air and abrasive media. The hose must therefore be wear-resistant, pressure-resistant, and at the same time flexible enough for practical use. A standard compressed-air hose is not designed for this task.

Inner diameter affects pressure loss and blasting performance

The inner diameter of the blast hose has a significant impact on flow losses. A cross-section that is too small can reduce the pressure at the blast nozzle and thus decrease the surface coverage rate. The hose must be sufficiently sized, especially for larger nozzles and high air flow rates. The product range includes various inner diameters, from compact hoses for smaller systems to large cross-sections for high-performance blasting applications.

Hose length should be no longer than necessary

Length also affects pressure loss. Longer hose runs increase flow resistance and simultaneously require more material and weight at the worksite. Additional length may be necessary for mobile applications, but it should not be chosen without a technical reason. The key is to strike a balance between reach and the most direct air path possible.

Different hose grades for various applications

Blast hoses are available in various wear resistance and quality grades. Which version is cost-effective depends on the duration of use, the abrasive media, the operating pressure, and the mechanical stress during operation. For continuous industrial use, a higher-quality hose may be advisable, while other criteria carry greater weight for applications with a shorter service life.

Pre-assembled blast hose or sold by the meter

In addition to hose reels and hose sold by the meter, there are pre-assembled blast hoses that come with a blast hose coupling and nozzle holder already installed. Complete packages may also include a remote-control deadman handle and control line. In such systems, the components are already matched to work together. When assembling the system yourself, however, the outer diameter, blast hose coupling, and nozzle holder must be checked separately.
