Blast pots for high-performance pressure blasting
Blast pots—also known as pressure blast machines or pressure blast pots—operate on the pressure blasting principle. The abrasive media is contained in a pressurized vessel and is fed into the air stream in a controlled manner via a metering valve. This results in high and consistent blasting performance, which is particularly well-suited for professional rust removal, paint stripping, cleaning, and surface preparation tasks.
The product range includes tank sizes ranging from a compact 18 liters up to 300 liters. The right size depends primarily on mobility, the desired operating time, and the required supply of abrasive. It is important to note that a larger tank does not automatically make the system more powerful. The actual material removal rate is primarily determined by nozzle size, operating pressure, abrasive media, hose sizing, and the available volume of compressed air.
Key Selection Criteria for Blast Pots
✅ Choose a blast pot capacity that suits your mobility needs and desired operating time
✅ Match the nozzle size and operating pressure to the compressor’s power ratings
✅ Consider the appropriate abrasive media dosage for the medium and application
✅ Plan to include a remote control for controlled start and stop of the blasting process
✅ Ensure proper operation of the water separator and dry compressed air for a reliable flow of blasting media
✅ Select a single unit or a complete set based on your existing equipment
18 to 25 liters: compact and highly portable
Small blast pots with a vessel capacity of about 18 to 25 liters are particularly suitable for mobile work, frequent changes of location, and shorter blasting jobs. The small vessel capacity makes transport and handling easier. However, this means that refilling is required more often when blasting media consumption is high. This size class can be very practical for repair work, localized corrosion spots, or assignments at various construction sites.
40 to 60 liters: a versatile size for professional applications
Blast pots with a capacity of approximately 40 to 60 liters offer a good balance between mobility and abrasive capacity. They can still be moved with relative ease, yet allow for longer working intervals than very small pots. This size class is therefore often a good choice for workshops, assembly, maintenance, and regular mobile blasting jobs.
90 to 140 liters: longer operating intervals
As the blast pot capacity increases, the frequency of refills decreases. Blast pots with a capacity of approximately 90 to 140 liters are therefore a good choice when larger surfaces are processed regularly or when working for extended periods with a consistent configuration. The larger capacity primarily increases the potential working time per fill—not the physical blasting power at the nozzle.
200 to 300 liters for intensive blasting work
Large-capacity blast pots with a volume of 200 or 300 liters are designed for long operating intervals and a large supply of blasting media. They are particularly suitable for intensive professional and industrial applications where interruptions for refilling should be kept to a minimum. Due to their size and weight, mobility is limited, which is why the intended location and transportation options should be considered before purchase.
Dosing valve, remote control, and water separator
A blast pot is only as good as its calibration. The abrasive media metering valve determines how precisely the abrasive media is fed into the air stream. Too much abrasive media increases consumption and can even reduce blasting effectiveness; too little abrasive media reduces material removal. A remote control allows the blasting process to be started and stopped from the workstation. For longer hose runs and professional applications, this is an essential component of a properly designed system.
Compressed-air quality is equally important. Moisture can cause abrasive media to clump and impair material flow. A suitable water separator and a properly designed compressed-air treatment system therefore increase operational safety.
The compressor and blast nozzle determine the performance
When purchasing a blast pot, compressor power should never be considered as an afterthought. With a larger nozzle bore and higher operating pressure, air demand increases significantly. If the compressor cannot consistently deliver the required air volume, the pressure drops and the expected blasting performance is not achieved. Therefore, when selecting equipment, the nozzle, desired pressure, and effective air delivery rate should be considered together.
Should you buy a blast pot individually or as a complete set?
A single unit is a good choice if a blast hose, nozzle, remote control, or protective equipment is already available or will be selected individually. Complete sets, on the other hand, provide a coordinated foundation and reduce the effort required to assemble the most important components. ABS Strahltechnik offers a variety of professional blast pots, pressure blast machines, and complete systems for trades, maintenance, and industry, and provides assistance with technical design as needed.
