JOS blast nozzles for Controlled Surface Treatment

JOS blast nozzles are used in JOS blasting systems and are designed for controlled, precisely adjustable surface treatment. The combination of nozzle size, operating pressure, abrasive flow rate, and the specific system configuration is critical to the final result. The smaller the nozzle bore, the finer the blast stream can be controlled; larger bores allow for higher surface coverage rates when there is a sufficient supply of compressed air.

In this category, you will find three sizes of JOS nozzles: the JOS Piccolo nozzle with a 3.5 mm nozzle bore, the JOS Micro nozzle with a 5.5 mm nozzle bore, and the JOS Standard nozzle with a 9.5 mm nozzle bore. All three models feature a ¼-inch female thread and are designed for use with compatible JOS blasting systems.

Piccolo nozzle, micro nozzle, or standard nozzle?

Choosing the right JOS blast nozzle depends primarily on the desired intensity of the work and the surface area to be treated. The 3.5-mm Piccolo blast nozzle is suitable for particularly precise work and smaller areas. The 5.5-mm Micro blast nozzle represents the medium performance level and offers a good balance between controlled processing and surface coverage rates. The standard nozzle (9.5 mm) is designed for applications requiring greater blasting power or higher surface coverage rates.

Selecting the Right JOS Nozzles

3.5 mm Piccolo nozzle – for particularly fine and precise work

5.5 mm micro nozzle – for medium-intensity work and versatile applications

✅ 9.5 mm standard nozzle – for higher blasting power and larger surfaces

¼-inch female thread – on all three JOS blast nozzles offered

Match the nozzle bore to the compressed air supply

As with other blast nozzles, the required air flow rate increases significantly as the nozzle bore diameter increases. A larger JOS blast nozzle should therefore only be used if the existing compressor and the entire compressed air supply can reliably provide the required air volume. Insufficient air flow leads to a pressure drop at the nozzle and, consequently, to reduced or fluctuating performance.

In addition to the compressor’s power, pipe diameters, hose lengths, couplings, and other system components must also be taken into account. To ensure consistent results, the operating pressure should be kept as stable as possible directly at the blasting system.

JOS: Select the right blast nozzle and abrasive media for the surface

The nozzle alone does not determine the result. The abrasive media, grain size, dosage, working distance, and pressure must also be suited to the respective surface. For sensitive materials, a cautious approach and a test on an inconspicuous area are recommended. The goal is controlled cleaning or processing without placing unnecessary stress on the surface.

Check the connection and condition of the JOS nozzle

Before installation, check whether the existing nozzle connection matches the ¼-inch female thread of the selected JOS blast nozzle. Threads and sealing surfaces should be clean and undamaged. A worn or damaged nozzle can alter the blast pattern, air consumption, and performance.

The nozzle bore should therefore be checked regularly. Especially when using abrasive blasting media, the inner diameter can increase over time. If a significant deviation or damage is detected, the nozzle should be replaced. ABS Strahltechnik offers JOS Piccolo, Micro, and Standard nozzles for professional JOS blasting systems and provides assistance in selecting the appropriate nozzle size.
