Remote-control deadman handles for blast pots and blasting systems

Remote-control deadman handles enable operation of a professional blasting system directly at the worksite. Depending on the system, pneumatic or electric deadman handles transmit the start and stop signals to the blast pot’s remote-control system.

The product range includes pneumatic and electric models, as well as variants with different housings, locking mechanisms, and connection designs. Depending on the system, supplementary control lines, cables, and control boxes are included as part of the complete remote control system.

When replacing or retrofitting, consider not only the hand lever but the entire existing control system. Pneumatic and electrical systems differ technically and must be selected to match the blast pot.

Which remote-control deadman handle is the right fit?

✅ Pneumatic hand lever for pneumatic remote control systems

✅ Electric hand lever for corresponding control boxes and valves

✅ Connection and control line compatible with the existing system

✅ Select the design and operation based on the work environment

Remote-control deadman handle as a control element at the workplace

In professional pressure blasting, the operator is often several meters away from the blast pot. The remote-control deadman handle allows the blasting system to be controlled directly from the work area. Depending on the system, the signal is transmitted pneumatically via control lines or electrically via cables to the blast pot’s control unit.

Pneumatic Remote-Control Deadman Handles

Pneumatic hand levers operate via a compressed air control line. When the lever is activated or released, the control signal changes, and the remote-control valve on the tank responds accordingly. To ensure reliable operation, the hand lever, remote-control hose, valve, and connection system must be technically compatible.

The product range includes various pneumatic designs, including robust metal and plastic versions as well as models with different operating and locking mechanisms. Which design can be used depends on the existing system.

Electric Remote-Control Deadman Handles

Electric hand levers transmit the signal via cable to an electrical control box or an electric remote control unit. They are part of a separate system and must not be considered a substitute for a pneumatic hand lever without a technical evaluation. In addition to the hand lever, the cables, connectors, control box, and the controlled valves must be compatible.

Control lines and Range

The hand lever is only as reliable as its connection to the blast pot. In pneumatic systems, long or damaged control lines can affect responsiveness. In electric systems, cables and connectors must be suitable for the intended application and free of mechanical damage.

Check before replacing

✅ Pneumatic or electric remote control system

✅ Exact valve and tank configuration

✅ Connection of the control line or cable connection

✅ Existing electrical control box for electrical systems

✅ Condition of the remaining remote control components

The remote control is a safety system

The remote control is used to control the blasting process from the workstation. Modifications, repairs, or bypasses should therefore only be performed properly and in accordance with the specifications of the respective system. A defective hand lever should not be replaced with makeshift solutions.

Select a remote-control deadman handle compatible with the system

ABS Strahltechnik offers pneumatic and electric remote-control deadman handles as well as associated control components for professional blasting systems. The appropriate model can be determined based on the manufacturer, blast chamber type, and existing remote control.
