Blasting accessories as part of the overall blasting system
In compressed air blasting, no component operates in isolation. The compressor, blast pot, abrasive metering valve, blast hose, couplings, nozzle holder, and blast nozzle form a technical chain. Even a single improperly sized component can increase pressure loss, reduce blasting performance, or unnecessarily increase wear. Professional blasting accessories should therefore be selected not only based on connection dimensions but also on the entire system.
Combining Blast Hoses, Couplings, and Nozzles Correctly
The blast hose transports a highly abrasive mixture of compressed air and abrasive media. The inner diameter, wall thickness, length, and wear resistance therefore influence both the service life and the pressure loss. Suitable blast hose couplings connect hose sections or provide the connection to the system. At the working end, the nozzle holder connects the blast hose to the blast nozzle.
For nozzle holders and nozzles, the thread type and connection type are particularly important. The product range includes, among others, 25 mm and 50 mm coarse threads as well as 3/4-inch and 1 1/4-inch fine threads. Hose-insert blast nozzles are inserted directly into suitable blast hoses and clamped in place. The connection type must therefore always match the existing hose and holder configuration.
Remote Control and Abrasive Feed Control
Professional blast pots are often operated via remote control systems. Remote-control deadman handles, control lines, inlet and outlet valves, complete remote-control valves, and electrical control boxes each perform different functions. Pneumatic and electrical systems must not be combined arbitrarily; the type of device, control principle, and available connections are critical factors.
The abrasive metering valve determines how much abrasive media is fed into the air stream. Proper and correctly adjusted metering improves blasting performance while helping to prevent unnecessary abrasive media consumption. Depending on the blast pot and application, different valve designs and connection sizes are used.
Compressed-air quality affects the blasting result
Warm, humid compressed air can lead to abrasive clumping, uneven dosing, and operational disruptions. Mobile compressed-air aftercoolers, coalescing filters, water separators, and dehumidification systems therefore help ensure a more stable compressed air supply. The type of treatment required depends on the compressor, the environment, the air volume, and the blasting method.
Check before purchasing blasting accessories
✅ Connection and thread sizes of the existing components
✅ Inner and outer diameters of the blast hose
✅ Nozzle size and actual available compressor power
✅ Abrasive media used and expected wear
✅ Pneumatic or electric remote control
✅ Required compressed-air treatment and operating conditions
Check wear parts in a timely manner
Abrasive blasting technology operates under high mechanical stress. Nozzles, seals, hoses, couplings, and components that carry the abrasive should therefore be inspected regularly. A worn nozzle bore, for example, increases air consumption and alters the blasting characteristics. Damaged seals or couplings can cause pressure losses. Timely replacement maintains performance and operational safety.
