Wet blast pumps as part of the wet blasting system

In wet blasting, water is specifically introduced into the blasting process. This requires a controlled water supply at the blast head or wet blast nozzle. Wet blast pumps perform this task, delivering water to the work area at the required pressure and flow rate.

Pneumatic Drive for Mobile Blasting Applications

Today’s wet blast pumps are pneumatically powered. This allows them to be used directly in an environment where compressed air is already available for the blasting process. A separate electric drive is not required. However, the pump itself consumes a small portion of the available compressed air, which should be taken into account in the overall design.

The systems offered achieve flow rates typical for wet blasting applications and operate at limited water pressure. The selection depends on which wet blast nozzle or wet blast head is to be supplied and how long the water line to the workstation is.

Water supply affects dust suppression and surface treatment

More water does not automatically mean a better result. The amount of water required depends on the abrasive media, nozzle size, working pressure, surface, and desired dust reduction. Too little water can limit dust suppression, while unnecessarily large amounts of water can saturate the work area more heavily and affect post-treatment.

Selecting the Correct Size for Water Hoses and Connectors

A suitable water hose is required between the pump and the blast head. The hose diameter, length, and connections must be compatible with the pump and the respective wet blasting system. Kinks or hoses with too small a cross-sectional area can impair the water supply.

Distinction from separate spray mist systems

In addition to pumps for direct water supply during wet blasting, there are systems that use water mist to suppress dust independently of the abrasive flow. Such spray mist systems serve a different purpose: they suppress dust in the surrounding area without necessarily being an integral part of the actual blast nozzle. Which solution is more suitable depends on the work process and the location of use.

Water Quality and Maintenance

Contaminants in the water can damage nozzles, valves, or small passages. Depending on the water source, appropriate pre-filtration may therefore be advisable. After use, the pump, hoses, and connections should be inspected and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
